Well, girls & boys, it's Monday and that has become the day for a funny paper "This Modern World" (TMW) in Ye Olde Blog and along with today's toon, Dan/Tom wrote:
Hey All,
This one’s as much about the sensible Democrats who think the GND [Green New Deal] goes too far as it is about the climate deniers who think it will lead to the elimination of all cows or whatever. Obviously, there are details to be sorted out, but I tend to think that you start with the aspirational goal, and then figure out how to make it real. When JFK said the nation should commit itself to landing a man on the moon, no one knew precisely how that was going to happen — how, precisely, a rocket could be engineered to achieve escape velocity and reach a target 183,000 miles away. It took a decade to figure it out and achieve that goal. But it started with the aspiration. Besides, as many have noted before me, we always seem to have the money for any random new war or tax cut that comes along. Call me crazy, but leaving our children and grandchildren with something better than a devastated planet beset by constant, destructive weather… seems worth shooting for?
Also, welcome back to Chuckles the Sensible Woodchuck. We haven't seen much of him in recent years, but as the Democratic primary gets underway, I suspect he'll be a more frequent visitor.
Dan/Tom
So in today's 'toon, we have a resumption of the colloquy between Sparky the Wonder Penguin, wearing his trademark Inuit-style goggles to ward off bull$hit-blindness, and Chuckles the Sensible Woodchuck, wearing his black-rimmed glasses, bow tie, and insultingly bemused expression. Sparky speaks for the partisan Left and Chuckles is the Centrist tilting Rightward. To bring some clarity, here is a link to an earlier post that presented the possibility of the death of this planet in the remaining years of this century. The bleats of the Dumbos and the faithful who follow the HA (Horse's A$$ in the Oval Office) about the cost of a Green New Deal is total hypocrisy when the HA will submit a budget for 2019 that will expend $8.6B to "complete" the Border Wall. $8.6 Billion in addition to $3.6B in his bogus National Emergency declaration that violates the US Constitution, Article I, Section 7, Clause 1 that "All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives...." The HA's National Emergency is a clear violation of the US Constitution. If this is a (fair & balanced) revelation of an attempted coup d'etat by the HA (Horse's A$$ in the Oval Office) and his minions, so be it.
