Along with today's 'toon, the email from tom@thismodernworld.com also contained this message from the 'toonist:
Hey All,
I don’t have much to add to this one. That president of ours, he certainly is a lunatic! I was watching the press conference live when he refused to commit to a peaceful transition of power, and started talking about getting rid of the ballots — by which he clearly meant the fraudulent mail-in ballots of his imagination, but it was chilling. If you haven’t read Barton Gellman’s piece on what might happen on election day and during the interregnum between November 3 and January 20, I highly recommend it. There are a lot of people who imagine that Trump will lose but simply refuse to leave the Oval Office, in which case — in their Sorkinesque fantasy — the Secret Service or the military will simply frogmarch him out of office. Friends, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that scenario is never going to happen. Trump’s play is clear — he will shout “fraud” and tie things up in the courts and create enough chaos and confusion for SCOTUS and Republicans to back him up when he claims victory. That’s the danger here. And unfortunately the only way out that I see is if he is crushed in a landslide on November 3. I’ve reconsidered my intention to vote by mail, and will instead be voting in person, and I hope a lot of other low-risk voters do the same.
Be safe and be well,
Dan/Tom
Well, Shakespeare's mad king ("King Lear") had 3 daughters and our version of Lear in the Oval Office has but two daughters. If this is (fair & balanced) proof that such madness is universal and The *ILK would be our King Lear in 2020, so be it.
