Out, Damned Cimex Lectularius!

This poor blogger suffered an attack of shingles on his upper right leg reaching to his hip. At the time these mysterious red (and itchy) spots appeared, the local fishwrap carried a story that an outbreak of bed bug (Cimex lectularius) infestation had occurred here. The poor blogger thought, "Uh, oh. bed bugs!" And the scratching went on along with a nightly search for the telltale traces of bed bug tracks on the bedding. Ultimately, the poor blogger went to a dermatologist. However, a diagnosis of shingles requires a culture of the blister fluid, but the poor blogger had scratched the sores until all that remained were discolorations where the lesions had been. However, stupid he may seem, the poor blogger had received a shingles innoculation a few years back and was assured that he was "protected for life." Au contraire," said the dematologist. Shingles can occur in victims who've been innoculated. If this is (fair & balanced) bed buggery, so be it.
