Dan/Tom offered a lengthy (and welcome) explanation of the method in this madness in drawing a 'toon with multiple distractors in each panel of the 'toon. So, here's the mad cartoonist:
This is a pretty well-crafted cartoon, if I do say so myself. Each panel describes a mistake in either approach or deed; there’s the visual component of “mistakes” (upside down head, etc.); and then the closing panel which takes each mistake up to a more meta level. It took me a lot of thought to get all those moving pieces to work together as a whole, and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.
The visual elements are basically meant to be non sequiturs (well, except for Trump's giant hands, so maybe I was a little inconsistent in that approach). The original image that popped into my head for Cohen was to have his head on the body of a rat, but then I realized it looked like an anti-semetic [sic] trope, which was obviously not something I wanted to convey. Cartoonists have to be careful about unintentional meaning like that. So his head is on the body of a dodo bird — don’t ask me why! It just popped into my head as an absurd image. But there’s literally no meaning to it.
Dan
Cartoon chaos about the chaos in our government. If this is a (fair & balanced) assertion that a cartoon can be a complex system, so be it.
