Today, A Big Announcement + A Classic 4-Liner From Calvin Trillin

The chatter on the news channels focused upon the cognitive slippage of The *ILK (*Impeached But Not Removed) Lyin' KIng during his -news conference- monologue yesterday in the aftermath of the announcement of the presidential ticket that will seek to deny The *ILK a second term in the White House. The Deadline Poet (Calvin Trillin) offered a quatrain about unhinging of The *ILK. If this is (fair & balanced) political poetry, so be it.

He tweets wacko theories. He rants and he raves.
His language decay is steady.
The question is asked: Is he falling apart—
Or was he apart already?
### [Calvin Trillin, the author of Deciding the Next Decider: The 2008 Presidential Election in Rhyme (2008), is The Nation’s “Deadline Poet.” He has been acclaimed in fields of writing that are remarkably diverse. As someone who has published solidly reported pieces in The New Yorker for 40 years, he has been called “perhaps the finest reporter in America.” His wry commentary on the national scene and his books chronicling his adventures as a “happy eater” have earned him renown as “a classic American humorist.” His About Alice (2006)—a 2007 New York Times bestseller that was hailed as “a miniature masterpiece”—followed two other best-selling memoirs, Remembering Denny (1993) and Messages from My Father (1996). Trillin received a BA (English) from Yale University (CT).] Copyright © 2020 The Nation Company Creative Commons License This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License..
