Along with today's 'toon, Tom/Dan broke radio-silence with a bittersweet note befitting the crummy year — known as 2017 —
Well my friends, I’ve alluded to some changes happening in my life lately, but here’s the deal: I’m separating from my wife of 19 years and moving back to New York City after Christmas. (It’s amicable and we’re dealing with it all as best we can; no need to write me, your kind wishes are assumed.) Anyway, to say that I have a lot on my plate at the moment would be a significant understatement. The next couple weeks’ worth of cartoons will be evergreens and/or reruns (to get me through the holidays and the move), but I plan to get my head back in the game as quickly as possible in the New Year. Thanks for your understanding, and thanks for sticking with Sparky’s List (and please excuse the lack of additional commentary for the next few weeks — it will return as soon as I can manage.)

[Dan Perkins is an editorial cartoonist better known by the pen name "Tom Tomorrow." His weekly comic strip, "This Modern World," which comments on current events from a strong liberal perspective, appears regularly in approximately 150 papers across the U.S., as well as on Daily Kos. The strip debuted in 1990 in SF Weekly. Perkins, a long time resident of Brooklyn, New York, currently lives in Connecticut. He received the Robert F. Kennedy Award for Excellence in Journalism in both 1998 and 2002. When he is not working on projects related to his comic strip, Perkins writes a daily political blog, also entitled "This Modern World," which he began in December 2001. More recently, Dan Perkins, pen name Tom Tomorrow, was named the winner of the 2013 Herblock Prize for editorial cartooning. Even more recently, Dan Perkins was a runner-up for the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning.]
