This blogger asked Dr. Google: "What is an existential threat?" The good doctor gave this blogger over to the Merriam-Webster site and here is the answer: An existential threat is a threat to a people’s existence or survival. Now, you know. In today's 'toon, Tom Tomorrow gives us a colloquy between Sparky the Wonder Penguin and a man in the street (leaning Dumbo/Moron). To the Dumbos/Morons, the jihadists in Syria/Iraq are real and climate change not so much. If this is a (fair & balanced) confrontation with imaginary dangers, so be it.
