Along with today's 'toon, Tom Tomorrow (Dan Perkins) wrote:
Good lord, what can I even say about this week’s news cycle? (Maybe that should be cycles, plural, since the average news cycle lasts about an hour or two these days, before something new and even weirder comes along.) I wrote two cartoons this week — the other one is about Michael Cohen, and will probably run on The Nib, because I wanted to get this one out before Mueller actually *is* fired. And of course, there’s everything else that happened in the last few days: Rosenstein’s firing seems imminent; Cohen was apparently in the habit of recording his conversations; a doorman claims he was paid $30,000 in hush money regarding a rumor that Trump has a lovechild; we learned from the Comey book that Trump was obsessed with disproving the pee tape rumors (ironically re-igniting them once again); Trump called Comey a “slime ball”; Trump tweeted that an attack on Syria “could be very soon or not soon at all!”; Trump attacked Syria; and on and on. Pity the poor weekly cartoonists, trying to keep our heads above water in this constant hurricane of news. We’re way beyond having “so much material” — any topic we choose is either outdated or forgotten within a few days.... Until next week, assuming we make it through another week in Trump’s America....
Dan/Tom
The ellipsis prior to the closing ("Until next week) indicates an blogtorial decision to omit a personal account of a a meetup between Dan/Tom and a pair of cartoonist buddies. Since this blogger didn't recognize the names, the personal note was deleted because it had nothing to do with today's 'toon. In the meantime, today's 'toon ventures that the current occupant of the Oval Office could solve his Mueller difficulties by putting the Special Counsel on a NASA rocket with a landing on the Sun. So far, in real life, there only has been the usual tweeting about the wrongful implications of collusion with the Russians... yada yada yada. If this is (fair & balanced) news-ennui, so be it.
