As I write this, scaffolding has gone up right next to my apartment, covering three adjacent buildings, with the second floor staging area literally right outside my bedroom window. Not sure what’s in store there, but it doesn’t seem like a positive development, from my perspective. And at this very moment, Con Ed is jackhammering up the street outside. This is usually a pretty quiet street, but all signs point to a noisy work environment for your humble correspondent, in the weeks ahead. (Update: there was a GAS LEAK outside my building! They've shut off our gas main and word is it may not get turned back on for a week or more. This just gets better and better. Oh well, who needs hot showers or a working stove ... )
I don’t have much to add to this cartoon, except that it was created while contending with a delightful outbreak of neck and back issues, undoubtedly a result of the excessive hours I spend staring at the computer in the first place. Probably some sort of lesson to be taken from this 
....

[Dan Perkins is an editorial cartoonist better known by the pen name "Tom Tomorrow." His weekly comic strip, "This Modern World," which comments on current events from a strong liberal perspective, appears regularly in approximately 150 papers across the US, as well as on Daily Kos. The strip debuted in 1990 in the SF Weekly. Perkins received the Robert F. Kennedy Award for Excellence in Journalism in both 1998 and 2002. When he is not working on projects related to his comic strip, Perkins writes a daily political blog, also entitled "This Modern World," which he began in December 2001. More recently, Dan Perkins, pen name Tom Tomorrow, was named the winner of the 2013 Herblock Prize for editorial cartooning. Even more recently, Dan Perkins was a runner-up for the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning.]
