As usual, in the e-mail conveying today's TMW 'toon, Tom Tomorrow (Dan Perkins) also wrote:
As loyal readers of TMW, you all know how rare it is for me to do a single panel cartoon — but I thought of this homage to the famous “this is fine” dog in the burning house cartoon by K.C. Green, and felt like it captured the moment pretty well. Sean Spicer’s press briefings are an amazing spectacle of justification and misdirection. I wonder if he’s self-aware enough to understand that his name will be mocked and reviled for, literally, decades to come. I think I’ve written about this before, but I’m genuinely baffled why anyone, even a loyal Republican, would want to do this job for Trump. To be the person who has to justify his lies and idiocies. I can only assume that the proximity to power is its own reward. DC is full of functionaries like Spicer, and making it to the White House is like getting pulled up from the minor leagues into the big time. And if he can survive a few years of it, and if Trump doesn’t kill us all, then he’ll eventually have a guaranteed lucrative career continuing to lie on one of the cable networks for years to come. Even at that, you have to wonder if it’s really worth it.
Until next time,
Dan (aka Tom)
The White House Mess Secretary, Sean (Spicy) Spicer has become a national joke. If this is a (fair & balanced) triple-jape, so be it.
