With today's e-mail, Tom/Dan included a post-vacation message:
Aaand we’re back from vacation. I just had a fabulous ten days out of the country with my son, very little of which time was spent thinking about the news at all. We got back on Wednesday, and wow, what a news cycle to charge back into after some downtime. I spent most of Thursday jetlagged and trying to catch up on everything, and didn’t even get started writing until Friday. (The original plan was to file another backup or rerun and get back to work for real next week, but that got scrapped as soon as I started looking at the news.)

Welcome back, Tom/Dan to the magical world of August 2018. The only good thing about the past week is that death of John McCain took over the newscycle and there was nary a soundbite from the current occupant of the Oval Office. Good riddance to bad rubbish. If this is (fair & balanced) Weltschmerz, so be it.

[Dan Perkins is an editorial cartoonist better known by the pen name "Tom Tomorrow." His weekly comic strip, "This Modern World," which comments on current events from a strong liberal perspective, appears regularly in approximately 150 papers across the U.S., as well as on Daily Kos. The strip debuted in 1990 in SF Weekly. Perkins received the Robert F. Kennedy Award for Excellence in Journalism in both 1998 and 2002. When he is not working on projects related to his comic strip, Perkins writes a daily political blog, also entitled "This Modern World," which he began in December 2001. More recently, Dan Perkins, pen name Tom Tomorrow, was named the winner of the 2013 Herblock Prize for editorial cartooning. Even more recently, Dan Perkins was a runner-up for the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning.]
