The Best Of The Super Bowl Commercials

It wasn't quite Mean Joe Greene, but the best Coca-Cola commercial in a long time ran on the 2008 Super Bowl (XLII). I got a tip while watching "Meet The Press" on Sunday morning as Tim Russert presided over a panel of Sunday morning gasbags, including the Odd Couple (James Carville and Mary Matalin). At the end of the show, Russert alluded to the commercial and showed a clip of the final scene. Carville went "Aw shucks" and Matalin sneered. If this is (fair & balanced) schmaltz, so be it.

Coke Bridges Party Lines
By Philip Stavrou

Democrat James Carville and Republican Bill Frist first appear taking partisan shots at each other on a news show.

But when Carville is forced to buy Frist a Coke, the pair put their partisan differences aside and become buddies.

Instead of arguing, they go on a bus tour of Washington, spend time at a museum, get their portrait taken together and even take in a basketball game.

The commercial ends with Carville and Frist sitting on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial sharing a Coke. View the commercial by clicking on the link below to go to the Coca Cola site; click on the Red Football Helmet for "Coke Commercial #2."
