In The Divine Comedy (1321) Dante Alighieri places the usurers in the inner ring of the seventh circle of Hell, below even suicides. (Showing how cultural attitudes have changed since the 14th century, the usurers' ring was shared only by the blasphemers and sodomites.) Today's usurers are embodied by Mastercard, Visa, and their ilk. If this is (fair & balanced) disdain of predatory lending, so be it.
