Today, Tom Tomorrow takes us on a tour of StupidLand and it's a discouraging trip. This blogger lives in Texas where Governor Goodhair proclaimed that this will be the "Texas Century." Of course, the Legislature is now in session and trying to not know the cause of the Lone Star State's budget shortfall of $25 BILLION which Goodhair does not know when he claims that Texas is the model of economic paradise in the 21st century. Of course, in 2005 Goodhair and his Dumbo cronies cut school property taxes (a favorite Dumbo pastime) by one-third and expanded the business tax to make up the difference. But the business tax brings in billions less each year than the property tax did, meaning that with every new budget, lawmakers must find more and more extra money to make up the difference. The structure of the revenue system creates deficits each year. Duh. Now, the Dumbos are going to close schools and cut ed-funding and healthcare-funding to balance the budget. Guess what will happen in 2013, the deficit will be back with a vengeance. Dumbo solution: cut more services. When the Lone Star State looks like a third-world country, Goodhair won't know it as he proclaims that the Texas Century is under way. If this is a (fair & balanced) madness, so be it.
