Quick! Change The Title Of The Georgia State Song To "Georgia Out Of My Mind"!

This blog's poet-in-residence (The Deadline Poet aka Calvin Trillin) looks askance at Georgia. The Peach State's gun-nut legislators made their state a free-fire zone: schools, churchs, bars, yada yada yada. The Deadline Poet examines the brave new world of church-going: "...Has anyone seen my Glock?" The loons in Georgia did mark off one area that must remain gun-free: "government buildings" (like the State Capitol). If this is the (fair & balanced) ultimate expression of gun-nuttery, so be it.

I’m almost dressed in Sunday best.
I’ve got my Bible. But I’m stressed:
It’s getting late. It’s nine o’clock.
Has anybody seen my Glock? Ω

[Calvin Trillin began his career as a writer for Time magazine. Since July 2, 1990, as a columnist at The Nation, Trillin has written his weekly "Deadline Poet" column: humorous poems about current events. Trillin has written considerably more pieces for The Nation than any other single person. A native of Kansas City, MO, Trillin received his BA from Yale College in 1957. He served in the army, and then joined Time.]
