Tom Tomorrow Needs To Visit Weird City, Texas

Right Wing media from Faux News down to every last drooling twitterer is beating the drums for race hatred and white privilege in these days of white police killings of unarmed black men. Right here in the self-proclaimed Capital of Weird in the Lone Star State, a Travis County Grand Jury indicted a now retired-Austin Police Department detective for manslaughter in a pursuit where the detective pursued a suspect from the scene of an attempted bank robbery and the suspect died of a single gunshot wound. To. The. Back. Of. His. Neck. The white cop pled self-defense and ultimately, the controversial Travis County District Attorney's office convened a grand jury that indicted (gasp) the now retired detective for recklessly causing the death of another individual. This blogger's impression of the news accounts give rise to police anger over a demand that someone (partcularly a black someone) "Halt!" After giving chase, the fleeing suspect was shot dead by a gunshot to the back of the suspect's neck. Self-dfense? The Travis County grand jurors weren't buying it. That dog won't hunt in the Weird Capital of Texas. Former detective Charles Kleinert offered a plea of not guilty to the charge of recklessly causing the death of Larry Jackson, Jr. The trial will commence in April 2015 and Kleinert faces 20 years in prison if convicted. According to Right Wing media, Larry Jackson, Jr. deserved to be shot in the back of the neck by a police detective who was enraged at having to give chase. That makes perfect sense to the Dumbos and Morons and the Austin Police Association members who sat in the courtroom in support of Kleinert's family. If this is (fair & balanced) wingnuttery, so be it.

PS: In the past 5 years, Travis County grand juries have looked into 25 lethal Austin police shootings and returned nary an indictment; Kleinert drew the black bean in this case.
