With today's 'toon, Dan/Tom wrote
Well, it’s another week in which I’m confronted with what I am beginning to think of as the “weekend problem” — weekend plans that rule out the possibility of turning out a last minute cartoon, or even adapting dialogue in the cartoon I’ve already written, in response to whatever the Friday news dump turns out to be this week. Hopefully this evergreen-ish cartoon will survive the test, in any case. And in happier news, the reason I’m busy this weekend is that I’ll be flying out to Portland for the wedding of my dear friend and comrade-in-cartooning, Matt Bors. But once again, apologies for not mentioning that we’ve started bombing Iran or Trump has literally pissed on the Constitution, or whatever damn thing it turns out to be.
This one originally kept referencing the latest "awful thing" the president said. Then Rudy Giuliani went on tv late Wednesday and essentially admitted that Trump was completely guilty regarding the Stormy Daniels payoffs, and coupled with Trump's subsequent tweets and his Fox and Friends interview last week made me realize that "incriminating" would work a lot better, and hopefully make it seem almost timely. Of course, as I say, I'm posting several days in advance, so who the hell knows.
Also: a shoutout to all the new subscribers who have joined up in the last couple of months. I haven’t been saying this enough lately, but your support really means the world, and genuinely helps to keep this work viable. As some of you know, I’ve been through some unexpected changes in my life over the past six months, and my old fallback plan (and recurrent laugh line at public appearances), “being married to someone with tenure,” is regrettably no longer operative. You all are now my version of that stage-dive thing, where a singer falls into the crowd and trusts them to catch him, and they do. You are what I’ve got, moving forward, and I sincerely appreciate it.
Dan/Tom
It is ironic that Dan/Tom skewered WH Press secretary Sarah Huckster Sanders when the comedienne Michelle Wolf called out Huckster Sanders at the WH Correspondents Dinner on Saturday, April 28, 2018. In the spirit of truth in advertising, the current WH Press Secretary should be called Sarah Goebbels Sanders, Reich Minister of Propaganda. If this is (fair & balanced) parrhesia, so be it.
