In the e-mail that brought today's 'toon to this blogger's In Box, Tom/Dan wrote:
Hey all,
Well here we are, two days to go. It’s always a bit tricky to write a cartoon before an election, when half the people who read it are going to see it afterwards. This time I decided to highlight some of the current issues and GOP distractions while focusing on something that constantly drives me crazy — the inability of much of the media to use the word “lies” when referring to Trump.
If all goes well, voters will impose some checks on this runaway train to fascism that we’ve all been trapped on for the past two years. And, if you’ll forgive a personal digression, if all goes well and some last-minute details can be hammered down, I will be officially divorced exactly one week later — a year to the day since I first learned that I would be headed down this path. It has been an interesting year, I’ll say that much. Between that imminent milestone and my larger hopes and/or fears for election day, I’ve been feeling… like there's a lot going on right now.
But here’s hoping for good news… and I’m certain this goes without saying to all of you, but I’ll say it anyway: VOTE, and make sure your friends and family do the same. Vote like your life depends on it, because I guarantee you, somebody’s does.
OH HEY also, we have some newbies on the list this week, thanks to a little subscription push I started. Many thanks to you for signing on, and of course much gratitude to those of you already here. I work in a dying profession in an unstable industry — or maybe an unstable profession in a dying industry? — and for many years counted on the security of my partner’s income to eventually offset the uncertainty, and probable decline, of my own. Well, haha, life throws you curveballs. But, you just have to adapt — and the support from this list already goes a long way toward keeping my career and my work viable. So, thanks for that.
Dan
This blogger saw a headline from last week's Newsweek that proclaimed, for the last several days, fact-checkers had discredited the Horse's A$$ in the Oval Office with uttering, babbling, bloviating 30 (10 x 3) lies per day. The old, senile, narcissistic Horse's A$$ had become the real Lyin' King of the land. And, that is what Tom Tomorrow (Dan Perkins) is driving at in today's 'toon. The media has been co-opted by the Horse's A$$ by allowing his lies to go unchallenged for the past nearly two years. If only the talking heads would comment, "with all due respect, that last statement was an outright lie." Or a single, banner below the image of the Horse's A$$ that simply states, "He's Lying." If this is a (fair & balanced) call for honest journalism, so be it.
