Today, A Colloquy Between Two Typical Denizens At The Bottom Of "The Base" — Have Anti-Nausea Meds Close By

Today's 'toon was accompanied with the following message from Tom/Dan

Hey all,

Unbelievably it’s almost Christmas — it kind of snuck up on me this year since I was busy, you know, getting divorced… but also because the right wing nutjobs haven’t made the usual fuss about the alleged War on Christmas, at least that I noticed (I’m sure there were a few exceptions here and there).

Couple of business matters…

— A reminder that I don’t do the annual Year in Review cartoons for Christmas and New Years weeks anymore. Trump, to put it simply, broke them. The sheer onslaught of his DDoS attack on democracy overwhelmed my ability to encapsulate an entire year in two multipanel cartoons. Plus this year, as noted above, I’ve had other things on my plate. I have to file those cartoons pretty early, to accomodate the holiday schedules of most of my clients, so I’m likely to post evergreens or reruns (though of course if there’s some huge late-breaking story, I’ll undoubtedly write something new).

— And speaking of the holidays … there are still some odds and ends available at the online store, and of course, copies of TMW25 are still available on Amazon.

Here’s hoping that something finally takes Trump down next year. I’m really, really tired of writing about him. I haven’t felt this level of exhaustion since midway through George W. Bush’s second term, and we’re only two years into this terrible timeline.

And of course, on a personal level, I’m hoping that 2019 is a slightly better year than 2018 was for me. I’m a cartoon character who got flattened by a safe falling from the sky, but now I’m picking myself up out of the person-shaped imprint in the sidewalk and shaking myself back into three dimensional form.

And, haha, I guess that is what passes for holiday cheer from your friend the dour cartoonist in the middle of major life changes. But I do hope we all have a fantastic new year.

Dan/Tom

And that's all, folks. If this is the best that can be said for our lives and our country in 2018, then here is a (fair & balanced) attempt to make the best of a rotten situation. So be it — Humbug!
