The Three Biggest Jokes In The US In 2019 Are (1) The LK (Lyin' King) In The Oval Office (2) Senator MoscowMitch McTraitor (3) National Healthcare

In the e-mail that brought today's TMW 'toon, Tom/Dan also wrote:

Hey all,

This week, we return to the eternal health care debate, which I’ve been writing about for most of my career. This one has always been personal — as a young freelancer in the late 80s/early 90s, finding adequate health care coverage was a constant nightmare. I’ve had coverage for the last 18 years through my ex-wife — the last 14, in particular, through the university at which she works, which was pretty decent health care! Now I’m on COBRA for a few years, and after that, I’m not sure what the plan is going to be, or if the ACA will still exist in any plausible form.

Speaking of that whole divorce thing, I wrote a bit last week about what I’ve been going through, and so many of you responded with long, thoughtful notes of support that I couldn’t even answer them all, so let me just say here how much I appreciate it. It's a bit of a rough patch, but I'm working my way through it.

And, ugh, a late edit on Sunday as I wake up to news of a second mass shooting over the weekend. This country is broken and its agenda set by the most vile people imaginable. To quote the great Mark Ruffalo in character as Bruce Banner, "that's my secret, Cap, I'm always angry."

Until next time,

Dan

In today's 'toon, the pair of stock characters who slavishly follow the LK (Lyin' King) are babbling the usual nonsense spewed by the LK to his faithful. In the third panel, Sparky the Wonder Penguin appears, wearing his Inuit-style goggles to ward off bull$hit blindness, and confronts the two clowns to the final panel. This would be funny if the truth of the matter is that people in the US pay more for health care than people in comparable nations (Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland. Sweden, and the UK) and by all metrics, the US health system is the worst of the lot. All of the blather about US health care from both political parties amounts to the equivalent of rearranging deck furniture on the SS Titanic. Our national healthcare, compared to all of the comparable nations listed above, is a fraud. We are spending more and getting less in return than any other modern nation. If this is the (fair & balanced) description of national insanity, so be it.
