Today, Tom Tomorrow (Dan Perkins) Reports All Of The HOAXES In Public Life, Save One....

In yesterday's email, along with today's TMW 'toon, Tom Tomorrow (Dan Perkins) wrote:

Hey all,

I won’t lie, it’s getting harder every week to extract ostensibly humorous commentary from an out-of-control pandemic, a real-time climate crisis, and an idiot strongman trying to drive our country straight into fascism. Just to name a few of our current problems. As I write this, I have friends in Portland who are worried that they may lose their homes, depending entirely on which way the winds blow over the next day or two.

As I suggested in last week’s time-traveling Sparky cartoon, 2014 looks positively idyllic in retrospect. Little did we know.

We are closing in on the most important and fraught election of my lifetime, and Trump is making it clear that he intends to hold onto power with both tiny hands. The unprecedented numbers of mail-in ballots will probably mean that we don’t have a clear answer on election night, but he’ll undoubtedly try to declare victory anyway. The time between November 3 and January 20 is going to make the 2000 election look entirely clear-cut in retrospect. There will be legal battles, attempts to throw out votes on technicalities, and god only knows what kind of naked power grab. Did you know state legislators can ignore the results of the election and submit their own slate of electors? It’s true! Our creaky constitutional system is going to be stretched to the breaking point. I would love to be wrong on all of this, I would love to see Biden get such an overwhelming electoral college victory that there’s no plausible way to challenge it. But even if that happens, those transitional months are going to be some of the most dangerous we’ve ever seen in this country. And at the same time, we’ll almost certainly be looking at another coronavirus spike, as activities move indoors and people, understandably worn down by everything, get careless about social distancing.

Ah well. If there’s any lesson I learned from my divorce, it is that the only way out is through.

Here’s a small Sparky’s List bonus for the week — an extra panel that didn't make the final cut.

Once again, I must thank you for your ongoing support. The last few months have cost me some income, and I’m just holding my breath waiting for the inevitable moment I lose one of my major clients. I might finally try to get a Patreon going to hedge my bets — same content as here, but different ecosystem, for those who prefer it.

Be safe and be well,

Dan/Tom

Of course, not to contradict Tom Tomorrow, but the greatest HOAX of the 21st century is The *ILK (*Impeached But Not Removed) Lyin' King defiling the Oval Office with continuous corruptive acts and statements since January 20, 2020. This HOAX must be ended by any means necessary. If this is a (fair & balanced) reaction to E-V-I-L, so be it.
