Welcome To Life In A Funhouse Mirror In The First Half Of November 2020

Along with today's 'toon, Tom Tomorrow/Dan Perkins provided this message:

It’s almost sad, that the humor in this cartoon is derived from the premise that powerful people in politics and the media are behaving like decent, normal human beings. But that’s where we are!

As you can see, there are a few other differences on Parallel Earth. Men’s fashions are a bit more flamboyant — I don’t know why, exactly, but I just thought it would be funny. Ted Cruz went in a different direction with his hipster facial hair. And Donald Trump has naturally grey hair and no orange makeup. True story: I was finishing this cartoon up when he gave his Friday press conference and showed up … with naturally grey hair. Even in these closing moments of the Trump interregnum, I can’t stay ahead of reality. Also, I played with giving him a slightly less stupid haircut, but after already having taken away the orange skin, the caricature started to wander away from recognizability, so I kept the basic shape of the hair.

Like every week for the past four years, this was a long one (punctuated for me with a bit of an unpleasant personal anniversary, or per my new portmanteau, an anti-versary). I started the week concerned that Trump might actually somehow figure out a path to challenge the election results in court, but that possibility seems distant at the moment. I mean, he’s a menace until the moment they drag him out of the Oval, so I caution against letting your guard down, but momentum does not appear to be on his side.

...Finally, stay safe out there. As you are certainly aware, the COVID numbers are looking really, really bad. Let’s all try to survive long enough to be able to hug our friends again, not to mention getting back to naked face-licking Twister parties in crowded bars. (Maybe that’s just a New York City thing?) Anyway, wear your masks and for god’s sake don’t have indoor gatherings with ten people, which is currently one of the inexplicable NYS guidelines, along with closing bars at ten PM, which as someone noted on Twitter, is an excellent solution if the problem is widespread vampire attacks.

And so, we continue to count down the weeks until we can stop paying constant attention to the dumbest, most malevolent man on the planet….

Dan/Tom

Today's TMW 'toon is an imagination of today's realm of experience as a parallel universe. This version of post-2020 election life is portrayed in opposites. The so-called serious public men are dressed in bizarre, patterned jackets, not blue or gray suitcoats. And their pronouncements are clearly diametrical to reality. For example, parallel Joseph Biden Jr. refers to the parallel *ILK/WPE (*Impeached But Not Removed) Lyin' King/Worst President Ever as an... "even-tempered and honorable man." If this is a (fair & balanced) portrayal of present days as a nightmare on steroids, so be it. And, with vote recounts and no concession from the loser in the ongoing nightmare, the beat goes on....
