In his email that brought today's 'toon to this blogger's In Box, Tom Tomorrow (Dan Perkins) also wrote:
I woke up this morning to the news that the Supreme Court will not be taking on the Texas AG’s absurd lawsuit to overturn election results in four other states, so it’s starting to feel like we’re going to get through this insane transition period more or less in one piece, albeit with millions of MAGAs convinced or pretending to believe that the election was stolen. I’m sure that will work out great.
A few notes about this one … the second panel is true! Kellyanne Conway is getting a multi-million dollar advance for a book about her time in the White House. You’d like to imagine that none of these terrible people would ever be able to show their faces in public again, but I’ve lived in this world too long to expect that. They’ll get book deals, paid tv pundit gigs, etc. After four years enabling a uniquely terrible president, it’s time to cash in!
Third panel is about the Georgia runoffs, obviously. Loeffler and Perdue were backing Trump’s attempts to overturn the votes in their own state.
The fourth panel was inspired by a thought I had about how very much time rational people are spending right now debunking irrational voter fraud theories, and how little the perpetrators of those theories care … combined with Joe Biden’s oft-stated conviction that he’ll be able to reach across the aisle and work with Republicans in Congress who *also* believe or pretend to believe in these crazy theories.
Fifth panel: Rudy did, in fact, receive the treatment that Trump promised everyone we’d be getting for free, something that doesn’t seem to have materialized. Knock me over with a feather.
And the final panel brings us back to my first paragraph above. I’m sure the attempt to undermine democracy completely will have no lasting consequences whatsoever. Things will be great! in our new bipartisan paradise.
Until next week,
Dan/Tom
And so, here we are in a seemingly unending loop of electoral uncertainty in the midst of the worst public health crisis in memory. The title for today's TMW 'toon is spot-on because "No one said this would be easy." Instead, the outcome seems hellish and difficult. If this is a (fair & balanced) prognosis of our time, so be it. And, as long as the post-election nightmare of election challenges continue...
