Recall Rick! Zipper Harris has Blogger's Block!

The AM fishwrap ran a headline story about the pro-Democrat/anti-Republican rally in Austin on Saturday, August 9, 2003: Recall Rick! Governor Gridlock! Even the local fishwrap — Republican or else — has called for an end to the nonsense: Democrats come home and Republicans cease the redistricting effort until 2010. Wow! In Amarillo — the sole Texas community to go for Goldwater in 1964 — where all of the suburban schools are lily-white. That bit of info was in the fishwrap as well. A report on statewide test scores for the suburban schools showed 0 African-Americans and 0 Asian-Americans. Governor Gridlock! Better than Good hair! (Sorry, Molly Ivins.) The Amarillo fishwrap doesn't run Doonesbury on Sundays. Too much for the devout, I guess. Anyway, here is the link to Doonesbury, August 10, 2003:

Jeff Redfern (looking over Zipper's shoulder) and Zipper Harris are Garry Trudeau's quintessential Millenial Generation college slackers. Both are students at Walden University. (Trudeau attended Yale University and he's not pleased with the way his alma mater is headed.) Jeff is a summer intern with the CIA. Zipper is a college jock (of sorts). Zipper's uncle — Zonker Harris — was a legend at Walden as a jock/slacker. Zipper is fulfilling Uncle Zonk's legacy. That is enough background into the universe of Garry Trudeau.

Trudeau detested his fellow Yalies: George H.W. Bush and (even more) George W. Bush. Surprisingly, the Amarillo fishwrap carries Doonesbury on its Op-Ed page (except Sunday). The rightwing wackos must hate it. If this be treason, make the most of it.
